The Society of Radiographers is delighted to announce a Safer Working series in conjunction with the Hazards Campaign. In this three-part series over three months, we will tackle the topics of Ventilation for Covid and Whole Working Life, Stress and Wellbeing at Work and The Working Time Directive. These webinars will give you the tools to improve your workplace and your wellbeing.
We are thrilled to have a very experienced panel to deliver this training:
Hilda Palmer, who was named as the Most Influential Individual in Health and Safety 2020 by the Safety and Health Practitioner (SHP). For over 30 years she has been campaigning for safer workplaces, via the Hazards Campaign, and has been educating people nationwide to push for improvements.
Janet Newsham, who works for Greater Manchester Hazards Centre as the coordinator and chair of the Hazards Campaign. She works with the TUC and beyond, striving to create safer workplaces for all, and is an experienced and greatly respected trainer.
The SoR’s health and safety policy officer, Rhys Martin, will be moderating all three events and had this to say about the sessions: “We are delighted to have Hilda and Janet run these sessions for our members. Both are very highly regarded in our movement and have years of experience of supporting members of numerous trade unions to improve their workplaces and their working lives.
All three sessions will be invaluable for all our members who continue to play imperative roles in our society. Our health and safety representatives make a huge difference in workplaces and this ties into our commitment to give quality continuing professional development sessions for all of our membership. The sessions will also be recorded to enable those who are unable to attend to watch on demand at their convenience.”
Ventilation for Covid and Your Whole Working Life!
The pandemic has exposed the fact that many workplaces have extremely poor, unhealthily low levels of ventilation. This allows airborne pollutants, including viruses like Covid-19, to circulate and cause illness. Join this session to learn why we need proper ventilation, how to measure it and how you can challenge your employer to get the cleanest workplace air.

Stress and Wellbeing at Work
Work-related stress is an increasing epidemic which is damaging the physical and mental health of many workers. It can be considered a workplace hazard and employers have a legal duty to reduce its risk to workers. In this session, you will explore a holistic approach to work‐related stress and how it can be assessed and managed to improve wellbeing for everyone.

The Working Time Directive
We work to live, not live to work, and a good life-work balance is essential for our wellbeing. Join this session to find out what the law says, what is happening in practice and its impact on our health. You will also learn how you can improve the situation in your workplace.
